MCHE Library is working on the creation of a Digital Library of our most prominent local serial publication, Faithoora (ފަތްތޫރަ).
This work is being carried out with the support of Maldives Greenstone support Network (MGN) in affiliation with HealthNet Nepal. The Digital Library project is being funded through a grant from the University of Waikato.
MGN is made up of representatives from the MCHE Library, National Library of Maldives, National Centre for Information Technology, & the Maldives Library Association.
The pilot version of the Faithoora Digital Library is being tested now. The following are some screen shots from the Digital Library.
Figure above shows the entry point for individual issues of Faithoora, with a hyperlinked Table of Contents. A click on the table of contents will take the reader to the relevant page. The following is how individual articles are displayed.
Note: The screen shots are a bit fuzzy here. Work is in progress to sort out searching issues using dhivehi unicode.

This is going to be one step closer to providing equal access to information and a step taken further to close the information gap within Maldives.
I hope this will encourage Maldivians to read more and to establish a more reading culture….
