A member of our Library Team, Zafoora Zahir, is attending a short-term training program at the SAARC Documentation Centre (SDC) in New Delhi, India. These programs are offered to Maldivians through the National Library of Maldives which is the local Focal Point of SDC. Placements in SDC programs are given to all the SAARC countries.
The SDC undertakes several workshops, seminars, and training courses in the field of library science and information technology. These include short-term programs of 2 weeks to 3 months duration. A two-year Master Degree Course on “Associateship in Information Science” has also been included in its regular activities.
The MCHE Library tries very hard to secure nominations for these programs for the Library Team members, as it is an excellent opportunity to expose the staff members to international library work and encourages networking within the discipline. The training facilitates hands on experience in library technical work as well as introduce the concept of the interrelation and integration of information technology in service provision in the library setting. These opportunities are invaluable given the lack/shortage of adequate training opportunities available locally to develop library professionals.
